Kanye hits out at the Grammys...again

Yeezy and Mos Def were busy freestyling last night at the Blue Note Jazz Club over a J Dilla beat. Kanye could not resist the opportunity to take a swipe at the Grammys in response to his album being snubbed for Album of the Year.

West rapped:

My whole family… now I’m scared of the Grammys
Cause everybody know that Dark Fantasy,
was the highest rated album in history, get me?
So I just avoid it, not to be exploited, not be recorded
Cause I cannot afford it, I cannot afford more shit and be in more debt

Rumour has it that if the company can negotiate one more signature, the launch across the USA will closely follow. The company is set for a $1 billion dollar valuation as a result of corporate fundraising and paid out over $50 million to record labels last year.

NME Awards tonight!

The NME Awards are tonight!

I can only hope that this year's ceremony is packed with the normal drunkeness and trouble we have come to expect. I have just been looking through the guestlist and with the names on offer it could be a news packed evening.

Buju Banton facing 15 years

We reported a couple of months ago that reggae star - Buju Banton had gotten himself in a spot of bother regarding a set up drug deal.

The subject of the deal was said to be 5 kilos of cocaine which was offered to the reggae star by an informant. The informant was paid a generous amount by the DEA to get Banton to agree to the deal before he was arrested. Banton has been found guilty of the charges against him and now faces 15 years in prison.

Banton's - "Before The Dawn" won Best Reggae Album at the 2011 Grammys but it would be fair to say that any new album could be a substantial way off.

Red Hot Chili Peppers and the acid trip album title

Anthony Kiedis has revealed that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are close to finishing their follow-up to 2006's "Stadium Arcadium".

Kiedis also announced that the album is currently being referred to as "Dr Johnny Skinz's Disproportionately Rambunctions Polar Express Machine-head" which refers to an acid trip that a close friend once had.

The frontman went on to say that despite the name, the album actually represents the most focused work that the band has ever done. At this point, there is no official release date for this album.

Tasty Treat #10

Something to see in your Friday night antics; have a good weekend...

And If You Don't Know, Now You Know #1

#1... Lil B

Lil B', prolific Bay Area rapper, released a monumental mix-tape over the weekend. The Free Music Collection, contains 676 songs taken off his various MySpace accounts. He runs over 150 accounts, with 5 songs on each, making him the most active MySpace artist by a long way.

Lil B' is part of the Pack, a group of rappers who describe themselves as “based”. “Based” is another word for swag, and Lil B' is the king of “based”. Prolific distribution saw him clock up 1000 songs before he was twenty-one years old. He's released fourteen mixtapes in two years, is on his second The Pack album and his fourth independent album.

His Free Music collection caps what has been an interesting 2010 for Lil B'. His songs littered YouTube and the hash tag #swag and #TYBG were seen over and over on Twitter. He even became and internet meme; the “Thank You Based God” gracing several pictures over forums and websites throughout 2010.

Now? His all-conquering, prolific raps look set to continue with the release of his first major label album, Glass Face. He's been described as a group of rappers who are post- Lil' Wayne. Alongside the Odd Future stable of rappers, Lil' B is part of the future. 2011 looks set to be the year of Weird-O rappers.

Thanks to @BenjaminJames27 for the knowledge.

Below is the video for the first single - "Lotus Flower"

"Black Friday" - Lil Kim - Official Video

A video has been released to go with the Nicki Minaj diss - "Black Friday". Hopefully they can sort this 'beef' out and just get on with it. Finally two solid female MC's in the industry and they have to bitch with each other...smh

50 and Jimmy okay but Dre beef bubbles on

50 Cent has tweeted that the beef that was brewing between himself and Interscope head - Jimmy Iovine has been sorted out.

However, the more interesting situation between Dre and 50 is yet to be cleared up. Dre has apprently publicly snubbed the new 50 Cent Sleek Headphones and 50 is still apparently working on the release of a diss track towards Dre.

This beef is slowly getting more and more like an actual reality.

Watch the whole webcast below:

50 Cent not on "Detox"... Set to release a diss record against Dre and Jimmy

Now the diss song part of this news has not surfaced yet but 50 is inferring on twitter that a song is in the making.

The story goes that 50 has been told that he will have no place on Dr Dre's "Detox" which is set for release in the next few months. 50 took to twitter to announce his feelings saying that although he loved them (Dre and Jimmy)... they hated him. He also believes his Sleek headphones line (which is in competition with the Beats headphones by Dre and Jimmy Iovine) is a key reason for this fall out.

If this diss song does surface before Eminem gets involved... this could be some of the biggest hip hop news of the past decade.

Eminem, Weezy and Juelz album news

Just some random nuggets of news for you...

Eminem is set to release an album in the Summer of 2011 after the success and critical acclaim of "Recovery".

Also, Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana will be following up the "I Can't Feel My Face" mixtape with a full length album! This would be amazing if this were to happen especially with "Tha Carter IV" and a Drake collaboration set for this year.

100 Club saved by sponsorship

London's 100 Club has been saved due to a sponsorship deal with American shoe brand - Converse

The iconic club, which has been played by The Beatles, Oasis, The Libertines, The Clash and The Sex Pistols, had faced closure due to ridiculous overhead costs. Many artists came out in support of the club and now it seems this new partnership has secured the future of this great music venue.

Beyonce confirmed for Glastonbury 2011

It's official

Beyonce has been officially confirmed as the Sunday evening headliner for Glastonbury 2011. Beyonce will perform a 90 minute set and will follow in the footsteps of her husband who headlined the festival a couple of years ago.

Beyonce confirmed the news saying:

"This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend," she said in a statement. "I'm pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy."

See PJ Harvey live

PJ Harvey will be playing "Let England Shake" in it's entirety during a live webcast of her show in Paris.

The show will begin at 8pm (GMT) on 14th February and can be viewed through Deezer and ARTE. So if you've got naff all planned for Valentines Day... You are now booked up.

Dungeon Family set for reunion

There is a strong rumour circulating that the Dungeon Family are set to reunite for a tour. It is believed that the Family will join together for the GA Power tour.

This would be amazing if it were to happen but to be honest... Anything that gets Outkast working again is good enough

"Computers and Blues" - The Streets - Album review

And so it arrives - the final album from The Streets is finally upon us. "Computers and Blues" is the fifth studio album and seeks to round off an incredibly successful and beloved tenure.

Mike Skinner has been clogging up blog land the past few months as he has patiently awaited a release date for the album. "Computers and Blues" was apparently completed months ago but was not scheduled for release until this week. The album is pretty similar in set up to the previous efforts; Mike still handles the production and lyrics with a little help from some wonderfully sourced samples and up and coming artists for hooks and other bits and bobs.

One of the first striking things about the album is the quality of mixing. "Computers and Blues" is not a willy nilly amalgamation of songs from here and there, it is as well thought out as the video blogs would suggest.

The album is as much as you have come to expect from The Streets. The first single - "Going Through Hell" is a calling to arms for fans which has been well received as the first act of the final play. "Puzzled by People" is perhaps as close to the archetypal Streets song as you can get with a strong beat, excellent lyrics and simple (but beautiful) imagery. "Blip on a Screen" is delightfully affectionate in the very same way that made "Dry your Eyes" and "Never Went To Church" such beloved tracks to fans.

"Soldiers" and "Trying to Kill ME" are other strong mentions for the album which maintain the same old Streets, but perhaps more mature and refined. In "Soldiers", Skinner raps "There will never be a sequel to this evening"... An upsetting truth. If it hadn't hit home that this is all over, "Lock the Locks" certainly hammers it home.

"Computers and Blues" is a tremendous way to end such an important chapter in UK hip hop. It will unlikely be cited in the future as 'the' Streets album (which is understandable with the prior albums) but is an apt curtain call. Whatever the future holds for Skinner his place in hip hop... No, no... Music full-stop is firmly secure. Thanks for the memories Mike...

"Once bitten, forever smitten"

Noel Gallagher has not started solo album

Noel Gallagher has denied reports that he has started working on his first solo album. Miles Kane has suggested that Noel had started the recording process when Kane stated that he had played guitar for Gallagher.

Gallagher told TalkSport that he has not started recording new material yet and that a new album will likely be "later rather than sooner".

Mumford and Sons to play with Bob Dylan

In a rather bizarre turn of events, British folk band - Mumford and Sons will perform with music legend Bob Dylan at the upcoming Grammy Awards on 13th February.

The band will play the collaboration as well as playing their song - "The Cave". The band have two nominations for the upcoming Grammys for Best Rock Song and Best New Artist so it seems it will be an amazing evening for the lads.

Gorillaz HAVE NOT split

Contrary to reports, Gorillaz have not split. Rumours had been circulating that Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett had been involved in a massive row that effectively ended the cartoon band. According to a statement made on the website though... This is officially not true.

Collective sighs of relief all round then.

White Stripes are no more

According to an official statement posted on their website - the White Stripes have split.

The statement said:

"The reasons is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It [the split] could be for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way."

But perhaps the band themselves summed it up best by saying:

"The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to"

Moby's open house policy comes back to haunt him

Moby asked the man to leave twice before sending him off with a jumper and some money for breakfast.

Moby... what a man.

EMI taken over by Citigroup

EMI has been taken over by Citigroup. The bank had been the main creditors of the label which had managed to rack up debts amounting to £3.4 billion. The debt (following the takeover) has been reduced to £1.2 billion and is to be sold on with the current management team still in place.

EMI is home to Gorillaz, Katy Perry and Robbie Williams and has a history of over paying it's artists. However despite this fact, it seems incredible that they were able to rack up this amount of debt without bank intervention.
