And If You Don't Know, Now You Know #2

#2... Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. Not the catchiest of names but a hip-hop collective that have been tearing up the internet for the past two years. OFWGKTA have been spraying free hip-hop from their blog for 24 months and they have recently hit the mainstream. Hodgy Beats and Tyler the Creator's performance on the Jimmy Fallon show has shown that this collective are ready to make the step up. This performance on Jimmy Fallon has set the internet alight; linked everywhere and just in time with Tyler's single, Yonkers, hitting iTunes.

The crew consists of Tyler the Creator, Hodgy Beats, Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, Mike G, Frank Ocean, Left Brain, The Jet Age of Tomorrow (also known as The Super 3), Syd tha Kyd, Jasper Dolphin, and Taco Bennett. Their website has seen them release three mixtapes and seven albums of free material, hustling pretty hard for no financial gain. What hip-hop is about, right?

Tyler the Creator's six minute long single, Bastard, perhaps sums up what their about. A dark, simple beat is laced with arsenic-raps from Tyler who rides the beat with such ease. The latest single from Tyler, Yonkers, is really dark.

But the success and spotlight hasn't been all good news. Earl Sweatshirt, a key member of the group, has been conspicuous in his absence since they have blown up. A Free Earl campaign has begun with rumours rife that he's been sent to boarding school by his mother after she heard her lyrics.

This goes to show just how young they are. Tyler isn't even twenty whilst the oldest member of the group is 23. They have built themselves a rep they can build on for many years. They show a great sense of humour in what they do to; a recent clip of them on Funny or Die showed they don't take themselves too seriously; interviews with them show they are, essentially, kids just messing around.

But the difference is they are hugely talented. With Tyler preparing to release Goblin on a one-album deal on XL recordings, could 2011 be the year of Wolf Gang?
